Tustin AYSO Region 96

Mayor's Cup

The Tustin AYSO Mayor's Cup tournament is an annual event for our U10-U14 core program teams to determine the Tustin AYSO regional champion who advances to compete with the other five regions in Area Q. This single elimination tournament for divisions under-10 through under-14 is seeded from the results of the regular season. Please note that referee points count toward this seeding. All Tustin teams in U10-U14 are entered into the tournament. Teams from other regions who combined with us for the Fall season are not eligible as this tournament is to determine the Tustin AYSO champion. The Mayor's Cup advances Tustin's best performing team at the end of the season, and as such teams that started slow and improved (but ended up below the top few in the final standings) often do well in this tournament.

The 2023 Tustin Mayor's Cup will be played Nov. 6-11, 2023.
Champions will advance to the Area 11Q Playoffs

Tournament Seeding

Teams are seeded in the Mayor's Cup brackets according to their place of finish in our Region's league standings (see below for final standings). League standings are determined as follows: the winner of each flight will be a top seed, subject to the Average Points and tie-breakers listed below. (For example if there are two flights, the winners of each flight will be seeds #1 and seed #2. In the case of only one flight, this is not applicable.)  After that, teams are seeded by by each team's Average Points. Average Points are calculated as: game points earned for wins and draws, plus referee points, less any subtracted points for violations of the Region's sportsmanship policies, all divided by the number of games. When teams have the same amount of average points, the following tie breakers are used:

1. Head-to-head result, if applicable
2. Most referee points
3. Most regular season wins
4. Highest goal differential (max +/- 3 goals per game)
5. Goals against, based on max difference of 3 per game.
5. Coin flip or drawing of lots as determined by Regional Commissioner or designee

If more than two teams are tied, the tie breakers will be used until one team is eliminated. The tie-breaker process will then begin again for the remaining teams.

Special Tournament Rules

All matches for all divisions are single elimination.

If the score is tied at the end of regulation all matches except the championship matches will go immediately to FIFA Kicks From The Penalty Mark (AKA penalty kicks) to determine a winner. Only players remaining on the field of play at end of regulation, or extra time in championship matches, may take part in the kicks to determine a winner. Substitutes are not eligible to to participate in penalty kicks.

Championship matches will play two full 5-minute extra time periods (not sudden victory). If there is still no winner after extra time then the match will go to FIFA Kicks From The Penalty Mark (AKA penalty kicks).

Minimum playing time for the Mayor's Cup is 3 quarters as part of the published Region policy. Teams or coaches found to be in violation of this requirement are subject to discipline, including suspension of the coach and/or entire team disqualified from the Mayor's Cup tournament or other AYSO activities as determined by the Tournament Director and/or Regional Commissioner.
