Referee Game Scheduling

Tustin AYSO uses Matchtrack as our scheduling tool.  All game schedules as well as referee sign up is done in Matchtrak. Referees login to Matchtrak and self-assign to any game they are qualified to officiate.

Referee Team Points Programs

Tustin AYSO runs programs for our volunteer referees. Typically these are divided into Team Points and Incentive Points. Team standings will be substantially affected by Referee Team Points. Referee training and certification must be completed BEFORE officiating games Details on Incentive programs may be found on our Referee Newsletter. Details on the Team Points program may be found below.

Team Points Program runs for the fall season only.

Fall Season Recreational Referee Team Points

What are Referee Points?
Just as players play games to earn Game Points and move their team up in the standings, Referees and Assistant Referees officiate games to earn Referee Points and help teams move up in the standings. Awards are given to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams in Fall Recreational Regional Pool Competition. Teams that earn Referee Points have a much better chance of placing higher in the final standings than teams that do not.

Affiliation
Referees and Assistant Referees may assign referee points to any team.

When are Referee Points Used?
Referee Points are earned only during Fall Recreational Regional Pool Competition; they are not used during the Fall Playoffs or any other season.

Types of Referee Points

  • Referee GAME Points are earned by Refereeing or Assistant Refereeing games during the fall season.
  • Referee BONUS Points are earned by qualifying as a new referee or by obtaining a referee badge upgrade (see details below).

Values Earned
Referee GAME Points: 1/2 point is earned for each game you Referee or Assistant Referee when signing up on the schedule prior to game day. You must be on the schedule to earn points. No shows should be reported by the Referee to the RRA.

Referee BONUS Points: 1 bonus point is earned for those new referees who complete the Basic Referee Course AND referee (CR or AR) four (4) games in the fall season, or by passing the test for a badge upgrade. This activity must be completed between June and November of the current year.

Fall Recreational Team: Maximum of 8 Referee GAME Points and/or maximum of 2 Referee BONUS Points (total maximum of 10 points) may be earned per team, per season.
How to Ensure Points Get to a Team
Points will be earned from the schedule database. If you have completed a game, the team you selected for that game will receive credit. Match reports are not required unless there is misconduct, game suspension/termination, referee no show or other incidents.

Team Designation
The referee will designate the team to receive credit in their MatchTrak schedule profile. This will be the default team. You may select a different team if desired when you self assign for that game.

Key Information
Referees are required to sign up on the schedule in advance to earn Points.
Points are earned for covering games on Tustin home fields only. Recreational or EXTRA games (typically designated with Q96 or R96) may be used to earn points.
Referee GAME Points are accumulated by a team over the game week and cannot be carried over to a later game week or back to a previous game week.
You may earn Referee GAME Points for more than one team (including EXTRA teams).
Referee Points are usually updated on the Referee Points Report (Google Doc link found on this page: Team Referee Points Report) by the Tuesday night following Saturday's games. Any questions as to the number of referee points earned each week must be brought to the attention of the referee administrative team BEFORE the following Saturday.
Issue Resolution
Any conflict regarding referee points must be put in writing and submitted to the RRA.

Any conflict regarding the interpretation of these Referee Points Guidelines shall be resolved by the Regional Commissioner and such determination shall be binding on the parties. If the Regional Commissioner determines that any provision in these Referee Points Guidelines is unenforceable or otherwise invalid, such determination shall not affect the remainder of these Referee Points Guidelines. In lieu of declaring any provision in these Referee Points Guidelines unenforceable or invalid, the Regional Commissioner shall have the authority to modify any such provision to the extent necessary to make such provision valid and enforceable.
