2018 Fire EXTRA - Tryouts Registration (9U-16U)

Dear Tustin AYSO Fire Team Applicant,

Thank you for your interest in playing for the Tustin AYSO Fire EXTRA program in Fall 2018. New teams are formed each year, so all players are required to attend at least one tryout session, but are encouraged to attend both sessions.

Tustin AYSO Region 96 is part of the American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO). The Advanced Play Program (APP) is designed to provide players with opportunities to train and compete at a higher level of competition while still holding to the core philosophies of AYSO. Players benefit from professional trainers, coaches with higher qualifications, and increased level of competition. (Compete in Section 11 AYSO Playing Circuit)

Tryouts days and times are as follows, and players should arrive 15 minutes before their scheduled tryout time to check-in:

Saturday February 24, 2018 and Sunday, March 18, 2018

16U (2003) & 15U (2004) 8:30 am - 9:30 am

14U (2005) & 13U (2006) 9:30 am - 11:30 am

12U (2007) & 11U (2008) 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

10U (2009) & 9U (2010) 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Try-outs and team formation will be based off the birth year age determination. Teams are single age grouping with the excpetion of 15U and 16U which may be combined per Section 11 EXTRA Admin discretion. Players should attend the try-out based on the year they were born.

WHAT TO WEAR/BRING TO TRYOUTS Please wear a white shirt, soccer cleats, and shin guards. PLEASE DO NOT WEAR CURRENT TEAM UNIFORMS OR CLUB SOCCER APPAREL. Bring drinking water in a labeled water bottle and a soccer ball of correct size labeled with player name.

TRYOUT PROCEDURE AND TEAM SELECTION INFORMATION Players will be given a tryout number at check-in. The number should be placed on the player's shorts (not on the shirt) so it is visible to the evaluators. Players will be separated into groups by the gender and age based on the team for which they are applying. The groups will be directed to different training stations where players are evaluated by professional trainers. Players may be observed by the desginated team coaches.

We strive to form the most competitive teams possible, and the number of teams formed in any particular division is determined by the number of qualified players who try out. Families can expect to receive an email through the Blue Sombrero system or APP Management Staff (for walk-ins) letting them know whether or not the player has been selected for a Fire EXTRA team. Rosters are comprised predominately by players who attended the tryouts.

In limited circumstances, a player may be invited for additional evaluation. Final selections are necessarily subjective, and include consideration of the players' skills, potential for development, attitude, commitment, along with the needs of the team and program. Evaluator player rankings and notes are not published or disclosed, and team selection decisions are not appealable. Players invited to join a Fire team are asked to commit to the team within a week of receiving their invitation so that open roster spots may be offered to other deserving applicants.

PROGRAM DETAILS AND COSTS Tustin Fire teams play in a highly competitive gaming circuit against other AYSO EXTRA teams in the Orange County and South Los Angeles areas. The regular season is anticipated to begin on September 8 and ends the week before Thanksgiving. Post season playoffs are in December and January. Fire players are not permitted to play in the AYSO core program or on a different club team during the EXTRA season.

Program costs for the 2018 season have not yet been finalized, but will be similar to 2017 costs which was a total of $380 (registration + program fee). Program costs include AYSO registration fee and a Fire EXTRA program fee which includes: AYSO registration and insurance; Tustin AYSO pictures and Kick-a-thon participation; post-season playoff tournament registration fee for teams that qualify; 14 weekly professional training sessions for their team; a week-long team training camp to kick-off the season in late July; a preseason friendly scrimmage tournament; and a Fire training jersey. Home and away uniform kits cost approximately $100 total. Some teams elect to attend additional tournaments or have add more professional training sessions. Details will be provided by team managers and coaches to player families after invitation.

  6. E-Sign and print your participants forms.
  7. Select the roles you would like to volunteer to.
  8. Complete your volunteer info and E-Sign.
  9. Review your selections.
  10. Pay by credit or debit card. (if you must pay cash or by check come to one of or in-person events to complete your registration)

The system seems to placing my child in what seems the incorrect age division, what is the age determination being used?
For the Summer 2018 season we are using the new AYSO age determination for MY2017.
For the Fall 2018 season we are using the AYSO age determination for MY2018.

Does everyone get to play?
Everyone Plays. There are no bench warmers in AYSO. Our region requires that all players in our core program play at least 3/4 of every game except in the rarest of circumstances.

Buddy Requests: Can I request my child to be on the same team with a friend?
5U, 6U, 7U, 8U: Yes, if possible.
 9U- 14U: No
16U, 19U: Yes, with limitations (i.e. the only two GKs in the program will be split to each team).
Balanced Teams take precedence over buddy requests.

Coach Requests: Can I request a certain coach for my child?
5U, 6U, 7U, 8U: Yes, if possible.
9U - 14U: No
16U, 19U: Yes, if possible.

Is there AYSO soccer for high school players?
Yes!  In fact, more than half of our 16U and 19U players represent local high school soccer teams and some of our 19U players are college students. The high school soccer season follows the AYSO soccer season. There is no schedule conflict.

My son/daughter has never played soccer before. Can he/she sign up?
Of course! Players must only meet the age requirement of being 4 to 18 years of age on Jan 1.  One of our core philosophies is Open Enrollment!

My child has a physical, mental or emotional disability and cannot keep up with other kids. Can he/she still play?
Yes!  You should consider having your child play in our VIP Program, one of the first and largest in the country!  Email our VIP Coordinator for more information.

Can my two kids be on the same team?
If they're within the age range and gender of their division we will put them on the same team.

Is there a soccer program in the summer?
Yes, the Summer program is for divisions 5U - 14U.

Do you offer a highly competitive level?
Our Advanced Play Program has All Stars, Spring Select and EXTRA. Our most skilled and competitive players try-out for acceptance into AYSO's United Soccer Club, whose teams compete against the best club teams in Southern California.

Will my child have fun? He/she has never played soccer before.
Soccer is a game, and games are fun!  Winning is also fun, but AYSO is about so much more than winning.  It's about player development, good sportsmanship, friendships and, most of all, having fun!

If I miss all the registration events, can I still sign up my child?
Online registration is available. Your child's placement on a team is not guaranteed and you will not receive any discount.

Can I sign up after the season has started?
You can if we still have room and the addition of your child does not upset the team balancing.

Does my child get a trophy for playing?
All 5U - 8U players receive a participation trophy at the end of the fall season. At 9U and above all trophies or medals are earned for the fall season.

My child can not practice on a certain day, can you accommodate?
The coach selects the day and time of training sessions. (If you coach, you can choose the time.) You can also ask the other parents on your child's team to consider organizing car-pools.

Can I pay with a credit card? Check?
Yes, you can pay online via credit card. We accept cash and checks at out in-person events.  Email our Registrar for more information.

Do you offer any discounts?
We offer early-registration and family discounts (Fall season only) online and at our in person registration events. 

Can I get a refund if my child withdraws from the program?
Yes, if the request for a refund is made before the day of the first scheduled game. Please refer to our refund policy.

Can my company be a sponsor?
Sponsorships start as low as $150.00. Please contact our Marketing Director or check our Sponsors page.

Is my donation tax deductible?
AYSO is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Your contribution is tax deductible subject to current taxation laws. Please check with your accountant or tax preparer.

I've never played or coached soccer before, can I sign up to be a coach?
Many of our first time coaches and referees have no experience. We will cover the cost for the training.

Can I coach my own child? Grandchild? Niece/nephews? Neighbor?
Yes! Please indicate on the player's registration form and contact your division coordinator.

Do you offer training for coaches?
We offer all levels of age appropriate training. Tustin AYSO will pay the cost of the class.

Are the coaches qualified?
All coaches are Safe Haven certified and have age-specific training.

Can I coach two teams? If yes, will the games be scheduled at different times?
We strongly discourage coaches from coaching more than one team. Coaching two teams requires permission from the Regional Coach Administrator. We do not guarantee that the games will be at different times. In most cases, we will encourage you to coach one and be the assistant coach for the other team.

I don’t know anything about soccer. Will you train me to be a referee?
Yes! We will cover all the costs to train you and provide you with all the equipment you need to be a successful referee.
