Tustin AYSO Region 96

Advanced Play (APP)

The Advanced Play Program (APP) provides players with opportunities to train and compete at a higher level while still holding to the core philosophies of AYSO. Players benefit from professional training, coaches with higher qualifications, and increased competition.

Both Fire EXTRA Head Coaches and All-Star Head Coaches apply to be considered for this role and are selected by the APP Coach Review Panel. Most player selection is also at the discretion of the APP Player Review Panel.

Coaches and players in the club soccer program under AYSO are reviewed and selected by the administrative staff of that area (PSC, AYSO United). Management of Tustin teams in either of the programs still falls under the APP Director in regards to region items.

There are 3 components to the Advanced Play Program: Fire (EXTRA); All Stars; and AYSO's Pacific Soccer Club. Players commonly first enter the program when selected for an All-Star team and are then asked to continue on a Spring Select team. Players may also tryout for a Fire team or Pacific Soccer Club team during the spring season. See below for more information about each program.

Tustin Fire

Tustin Fire (EXTRA) teams are highly-competitive select teams for divisions 10U - 16U. Players are evaluated at the tryouts held in February and March by professional evaluators. Player selection is reviewed and approved by the APP Player Review. Invitation to join a Fire EXTRA team is extended in April and sent by the APP Director.

The primary league season is in Fall, although many EXTRA teams begin training and attend tournaments in summer. During the Fall season, Tustin Fire players may not participate in the Fall core program and may not play for another club. Tustin Fire teams compete in the AYSO Section 11 EXTRA Circuit against other Regions' EXTRA teams. Post-season playoffs are in December and January.
Teams that win the EXTRA post-season Champions Cup tournament advance to the Western State
Championships in mid-March.

Many Fire teams continue to play during the "Spring Select" season from March through May. Click the Tustin Fire logo above or see our Fire (EXTRA) page for more information about tryouts and teams.

All-Stars

Players participating in the Fall core program may be recommended to be considered for an All Star team. Each AYSO Region in Area 11Q will form an All Star team to compete with one another during winter league. No official tryouts are held to be selected for a Tustin AYSO All Star team as players are observed throughout the fall core season. Due to limited size of roster and other variables, not all recommended players are guaranteed to be placed on an All-Star team.

Players are selected based on their overall performance in the fall core program, including good sportsmanship. Teams are formed starting in October and finalized in November. Teams compete in mid-December in our Region's All Star Tournament against other All Star teams. League season begins in early January and ends in early February. All Star teams that win the Area 11Q All Star season advance to the Section 11 Championships in mid-February.

Teams that win the Section 11 Championships advance to the Western State Championships in mid-March. Many All Star teams continue to play in the "Spring Select" season that runs from March through May. Click the All Stars logo above or see the All Stars page for more information.

Pacific Soccer Club

Pacific Soccer Club (PSC) is the highest level of competition available for the most talented and driven AYSO divisions 9U - 16U.  PSC teams are governed by AYSO national guidelines and the California State Soccer Association (CalSouth) bylaws.

PSC teams compete in the Coast Soccer League (CSL) against other non-AYSO club programs.  PSC's primary season is the Fall, but most PSC teams train year-round and compete in numerous tournaments, including the California State Cup tournament in winter and spring.  This higher level of training and competition demands greater levels of commitment and travel from players and families.

Click the PSC logo or see the PSC website for more information about tryouts, available teams, and the required financial commitment to play on a PSC team.
